Rarely originating from ministries or planning offices, they are born in local communities, carried by resourceful citizens seeking to improve their daily lives. Faced with the challenges of sustainable development, African civil society has a strong potential to generate new solutions that are usually better suited to respond to local socio-ecological issues since they emanate directly from the populations who experience these problems.
